    Gallery Reception for "WANDERLUST"

Now on display at the Louise and Bernard Palitz Gallery, “Wanderlust: Travel Photography from the Syracuse University Art Collection” explores how a variety of artists from the late 1800s until today have captured landscapes, either near or far, in order to give viewers a glimpse of diverse and varied places.

Since the invention of the daguerreotype in 1839, artists have been able to capture travel through photography. While the equipment may have changed, the personal nature of travel photography has remained constant and can be seen in this exhibition’s collection.

“The modern world, armed with smartphones and social media, fuels individuals wanderlust impulses to capture their surroundings.  This exhibition explores the evolution of travel photography, reminding viewers of historical landscapes and photographic processes, and visualizing that the desire to wander has been present for centuries.”  – Emily Dittman, Curator.
