Palitz Gallery hosts reception for 2014 Wynn Newhouse Awards exhibition
April 25, 2014
On April 23, 2014, alumni and friends gathered at Lubin House for the opening reception of the Wynn Newhouse Awards Exhibition.
Returning to the Palitz Gallery for the fourth year, the Wynn Newhouse Awards exhibition draws attention to the achievements of artists of excellence who happen to have disabilities. The exhibition contains the works of this year’s five grant winners, including two acrylic on canvas works by Ken Grimes, three marker-on-canvas pieces by Christopher Knowles, a large archival pigment print by Jason Lazarus, a video installation by Carmen Papalia, and three prints incorporating found and original material by Rusty Shackleford.
The annual awards have been presented since 2006 by the Samuel I. Newhouse Foundation. Nominees and winners are chosen by a committee of persons respected in the arts and disabilities communities. This year’s committee was comprised of Alexander Bacon, critic at Brooklyn Rail; Suzanne Kreps, manager at OK Harris Gallery; Sarah Suzuki, MoMA Associate Curator; and Laura Swanson, artist and one of last year’s winners.
The Wynn Newhouse Awards Exhibition runs until May 22, 2014; Palitz Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 10am–6pm, and Saturday, 11am–4pm. Read more about the exhibition and the artists.
