An evening with Sandra Bloodworth and Margie Hughto
February 3, 2016
On Wednesday February 3rd, we were joined by many for a lecture with Margie Hughto, Syracuse University Professor of Ceramics and Artist of the Trade, Treasure, and Travel artwork at the Cortlandt Street subway station. Hughto spoke about her many public art projects and commissions and we were also fortunate enough to see her exhibit which was on display in the Palitz Gallery. We then heard from Sandra Bloodworth, Director of the award winning arts program MTA Arts & Design and author of New York's Underground Art Museum: MTA Arts and Design as she discussed the many public art installations in the New York City subway system and all the work that went on behind the scenes of these sometimes 5+ year long projects. These included the works of Elizabeth Murray, Faith Ringgold, Eric Fischl, Romare Bearden and Margie Hughto. Thank you to all who came out for a wonderful evening and be sure to check out our Facebook pictures!
